Independent since day one

We believe software buyers deserve better

BetterSaaS exists because the $300B SaaS industry deserves a ranking platform that puts buyers first — not vendor ad budgets.

The origin story

In 2023, our CEO Alex Chen was a product lead at Gartner. He watched vendors pay six-figure sums to appear in "Magic Quadrant" reports that millions of buyers trusted as objective. He saw review platforms monetize through affiliate links that incentivized positive coverage. He watched "independent" analysts accept vendor-funded trips.

The problem isn't that these platforms are evil — it's that their business model creates structural conflicts of interest. When the people you're ranking are also your customers, objectivity becomes impossible.

Alex left Gartner with a conviction: there has to be a better way to rank SaaS. He partnered with Sarah Mitchell (ex-Forrester) and Marcus Grant (ex-Stripe) to build a platform where the scoring methodology is public, every revenue source is disclosed, and no vendor can buy their way to the top.

BetterSaaS launched in early 2025 with rankings for 12 categories and 200+ products. Today, over 20,000 SaaS buyers use our scores to make better software decisions every month.

Our 7-point independence pledge

These aren't aspirational ideals — they're binding commitments we uphold daily and audit annually.

No pay-to-rank

Vendors cannot pay to change their score, rank position, or inclusion in rankings. Period.

No hidden affiliate links

Every monetized link is clearly labeled. We never disguise paid placements as organic.

No vendor-written reviews

All reviews are verified through purchase confirmation. Vendor-submitted reviews are rejected.

Published methodology

Our entire scoring methodology is public and versioned. Anyone can audit our approach.

No sponsored content in rankings

Sponsored articles are clearly separated from ranking pages. They never influence scores.

Annual third-party audit

An independent auditor reviews our scores and conflicts annually. We publish the results.

Vendor dispute process

Every vendor has a right to dispute their score through a transparent, documented process.
